What is Players?
The Tosa East Players is the theater club at Tosa East, open to any students interested in theater. The Players group is for students interested in acting and behind the scene crews (paint, construction, makeup, sound, props, lights, etc.). No theater experience is required. When and where are the Players meetings? Every Thursday, right after school, in the theater (due to theater remodel, meetings are held in the band room) What are Players points? Points are awarded for various activities: attending Players meetings, parties, being in or working on a show, seeing shows. Etc. Are there other Players activities during the year? There is a late summer party to welcome incoming freshman. Players host an annual Halloween costume party and a holiday party in the theater. These are potluck and all Players are welcome. Students have also attended shows presented by Milwaukee theater companies, and workshops offered by area colleges. Players participate in the homecoming parade, Student Play Festival (SPF), Benefit Concert and End of the Year Theater Banquet. How do you “letter” in theatre? By earning the required number of Players points. How can I get more information about Players? Call/email the theatre theatre director, ask a FTA member or visit the PLAYERS page on this website. |
When are the productions?
There are two major productions each year, one in the fall and other in the spring. In addition, there is a student-organized benefit concert, and a Student Play festival that is written, directed and produced by students. How does my student find out about auditions? Audition information is announced at Players meetings, on the daily announcements, on the Players Facebook page and this website. How does my student get on stage crew? Attend Players meetings; go to the theater and talk to one or more of the crew heads, or to Ms. Sarner, the theatre director. Does my child need acting experience to try out or participate? No theatre experience is necessary to participate. What is “tech week”? This is the week before the productions opens and is an intense rehearsal period that includes lighting, sound, makeup and costumes. Students spend more evening hours in the theater during this week. Can a student play a sport and be in a show? Students have often balanced an interest in theater and sports by participating in the show that falls during the semester opposite their sport. There are many levels of theater involvement and students should talk to other Players and Ms. Sarnerif they have questions. |

International Thespian Society is a theater honor society. Students (general juniors and seniors) are invited and the induction ceremony is held in spring. ITS meets after school and members plan theater workshops, showcase performances and assist at the elementary schools on high-interest days. What is SPF? SPF is the Student Play Festival. Students write these plays, student directors are chosen, students are casts and students run tech for the plays. A couple of students are chosen to organize this event. Watch for dates when the plays are due for review and audition times at Players meetings. What is Benefit? Benefit is a Players runs event. Students perform a showcase of songs, dances, monologues, and other student talent acts at the end of each year to help support next year's program, as individuals or as a group with a piano accompanist. Information on signing up to participate will be announced at Players meetings. What's the FTA summer class reimbursement? The Friends of Theatre Arts (FTA) at Tosa East provides a $100 reimbursement for up to 10 students for a theatre course they have taken over the summer.
